How Can Spider and Varicose Veins Be Treated?

Laser surgery - It works by sending strong bursts of light onto the vein that makes the vein slowly disappear. It is more comfortable for patients since no incisions or needles are needed. It is supposed to feel like a pinch when the laser hits the skin and may leave some redness of the skin and discoloring after treatment.

The pulsed dye laser heats up and seals the veins. Over the next 4 to 8 weeks the treated area will first turn gray, then several more colors and more than one treatment may be needed.

The argon laser makes a burn or blister like area and it could be many weeks before any improvement is seen.

Within a few days the redness should go away and the discoloring in a few weeks. 2 to 5 treatments may be needed and treatments for spider and varicose veins are usually 15 to 30 minutes long. With this new laser technology it is more effective and has fewer side effects according to the American Academy of Dermatology.
